CT Scans for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment at NYOH

Computed Tomography (CT), also called CT scanning or computerized axial tomography (CAT), is a diagnostic imaging test that uses specialized X-ray equipment and computer processing to create detailed, cross-sectional images of the body.

CT scans allow physicians to clearly visualize organs, bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues with much greater detail than standard X-rays.

How CT Is Used in Cancer Care

CT imaging is an essential tool in oncology and is commonly used to:

  • Detect or confirm the presence of a tumor

  • Measure the size and precise location of a tumor

  • Determine whether cancer has spread to lymph nodes or other organs

  • Guide biopsies and other minimally invasive procedures

  • Plan cancer treatments, including surgery and radiation therapy

  • Monitor how well a cancer is responding to treatment

What to Expect During a CT Scan

CT scans are painless outpatient procedures that typically take only a few minutes. In some cases, contrast material may be used to improve image quality.

Your imaging team will guide you through every step of the process and answer any questions before your scan begins.

Safety and Radiation

NYOH uses modern low-dose CT protocols whenever possible to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining high-quality diagnostic images.
