Life is full of surprises. After having a kidney removed in 2011, I was diagnosed a few years later with Stage 4 renal cancer and referred to New York Oncology Hematology. It is such an excellent, caring place.

One of the great things about my physician, Dr. Dudek, is that he included me in the discussion about my course of treatment. There were four different options and we discussed them all. My son was there and also part of our conversation. To know that I could make decisions about my own course of treatment – that is something I was very pleased about and I’ll never forget.

It has taken some luck and the help of a lot of people to reach the age of 80 – including the doctors and staff at NYOH.  At this age, I can say it is important to have a positive attitude. That was something I always saw at NYOH and it inspired me and kept me going.
